Barry has 30 years of experience, predominantly in workers compensation matters with a particular specialisation in industrial deafness cases. He has been with Whitelaw McDonald since 1994, and has represented clients in both the Supreme Court Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court Criminal Court of Appeal. 

In 2019, Barry represented a client in the Supreme Court – Court of Appeal for the supply of hearing aids against BlueScope Steel (AIS) Pty Ltd and was successful. This case is still used as precedent in workers compensation cases today.

Barry is also the First Aid Officer for the firm as he is qualified with a Certificate 2 Medical Service First Response.

During his time at Whitelaw McDonald, he has represented clients in the areas of conveyancing, criminal matters including work in the criminal court of appeal, leasing, wills, powers of attorney and enduring guardianships, common law matters, motor vehicle accident and debt recovery.

Barry has developed a seminar series that he has presented to various aged care facilities in the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie area.

Barry was appointed as community member for the NSW State Parole Authority on 11 October 2006 and was reappointed on 21 October 2009 and finished his term on 20 October 2012.

When not working, Barry keeps busy volunteering furthering his aim to help the community in the below:
