Laura joined the Whitelaw McDonald team in 2025 bringing with her nearly a decade of personal injury law experience. Laura has predominately worked in coal mine compensation law but also has experience in public liability and Total and Permanent Disablement claims. Laura regularly appears before the District Court instructing Counsel in coal mine workers compensation claims and also in the Supreme Court in coal mine common law and third party common law claims. Laura prides herself on ensuring her clients understand the law as it applies to their claim and cutting through the complex legal jargon, no matter the area of law or issues at hand . In 2024, Laura obtained her specialist accreditation in personal injury law.
 
Outside of her legal career, Laura likes to think of herself as an amateur sportswoman. She runs half and full marathons and attends a CrossFit gym, although she still cannot do a pull up. She has been a member of Dixon Park SLSC since 2003 and holds her Bronze Medalion, Advanced First Aid Certificate and IRB crew person qualification. She is a vice patrol captain and is also involved in training of the surf rescue certificate and other lifesaving courses. Laura has also been the recipient of several club awards including Dixon Park SLSC volunteer of the year. In 2025 Laura received the Hunter Surf Lifesaving Trainer of the Year Award.
