In one of our cases, a 4-year-old girl sustained injuries, including permanent hearing loss, when a horse fell on her at a country show jumping event. During the event the horse is said to have come within a short distance to the child, and it is alleged that the rider did not maintain control  of the horse. The horse fell and landed on the child.

The injuries to the child included a fractured skull, permanent hearing loss or severe deafness in the left ear, facial nerve palsy/paralysis, contusion to the lungs and moderate traumatic brain injury. It is also alleged the child has suffered behavioural and emotional changes which are affecting classroom engagement, relationships with siblings and social development.

 A claim is being made on behalf of the child for damages between $825,000 and $1.02 million. The claim is still to be determined by the Court.
